Yesterday, we visited Emily Temple and Jane Marple on the upper floors of Laforet, Harajuku's major shopping complex. Dainty and darling... but if you're anything like me, you'd rather spend time with the punks and the pirates. Avast - to the underground!
On the descent to level B1, you'll have to steer past Putumayo, Algonquins, and Alice and the Pirates...
Black, white, and pink stripes: emblems of the Harajuku punk tribe Algonquins. My favorite piece was an aqua-colored top with long black strips looped over the front.
The girl is wearing a giant panda backpack.
Super Lovers' starry-eyed pandas are next door. Around the corner, there are racks of fashion magazines and music (see my Laforet video tour for a glimpse).
Walk down half a level to B1.5, and you'll be greeted by the lock-necked swans of Metamorphose temps de fille.
Alice and the Pirates is one swashbuckling brand (and probably my current favorite).
Also underground: Stigmata, Black Peace Now, Mille Fleurs, Choice x Sexy, Black Lab by Hiderock, and Putumayo.
The H.Naoto boutique had the most morbid accessories display I've ever seen. Fingernails and ants were embedded to the shelves with globs of clear glue! I tried on a dress from his new collection (it was $175-ish).
In the Atelier Pierrot shop, a towering male Goth Loli was trying on Victorian hats with his cheery Lolita friends.
