Facebook Continuing To Grow In The UK

Forget eBay, YouTube, Bebo, and the BBC.  When it comes to the most visited websites in the UK, Facebook's topped them all.  According to new Hitwise data, the fast-growing social network only sits behind Google UK.
Robin Goad writes, "The number one social network in Britain received 3.16% of all UK Internet visits last month, equivalent to one in every 32.  For the 4 weeks ending 27/09/08, one in every 50 UK Internet searches was for the single term 'facebook.'"

Google UK, by comparison, got 8.22 percent of all visits, or one in every 12.  And to put Facebook's achievement in another less-bright perspective, Goad notes, "[T]raffic to the site increased by 4% between August and September this year, down from 50% over the same period last year.  The site's annual growth rate remains impressive at 88% between September 2007 and 2008, but was significantly less than the 2905% it experienced the previous year."
Still, a look at the chart of Facebook's growth in the UK doesn't reveal any huge dips, and the site instead seems to be confronting the way in which increases in large numbers are represented by smaller percentages.
If Facebook ever manages to work out a solid business plan, this growth might well be enough to compensate for any recession and keep it looking attractive to UK businesses.
