Takahashi Ai to star in new NHK primetime drama

Oricon brings news of Morning Musume's leader getting a prime role in a serial drama. Morning Musume's Takahashi Ai Will Be First Active Member To Star In A Serial Drama!

It was announced on the Hello Project website that Morning Musume's leader Takahashi Ai will have her first starring role in a serial drama when "Q.E.D. Shoumei Shuuryou" (Q.E.D. Case Closed) begins on NHK in January 2009. It will be the first time a Morning Musume member has starred in a primetime serial drama.

"Q.E.D. Shoumei Shuuryou" is based on the mystery manga series by Katou Motohiro from "Magazine Great" (Kodansha). The story follows easy-going and cheerful schoolgirl Kana (Takahashi Ai) and genius boy Touma (Nakamura Aoi) who graduated from an American university at age 15, who form an unlikely duo and solve various difficult cases with logic.

In the past, Morning Musume's Abe Natsumi starred in a primetime drama "Koinu no Waltz", but that was after she graduated from Morning Musume. This will be the first time an active member has had a starring role.

In August, she played the role of Cinderella in the month-long run of "Cinderella the Musical" at Shinjuku Koma Theatre, as well as the part of Mie from Pink Lady in the NTV special drama "Hitmaker Aku Yu Monogatari", so Takahashi is broadening her acting roles lately.

"Q.E.D. Shoumei Shuuryou" will air on NHK every Thursday at 8:00pm, beginning in January.
